3D AND 4D SCANS
WHY 3D/4D?
Like regular ultrasounds, 3D and 4D ultrasounds use sound waves to create an image of your baby in your womb. For instance, instead of just seeing a profile view of your cutie’s face, in a 3D sonogram you can see the whole surface (it looks more like a regular photo).
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
The difference is that 3D ultrasounds create a three-dimensional image of your baby, while 4D ultrasounds create a collection of multiple 3D slides, and you’d see your baby doing things in real time (like opening and closing their eyes, sucking their thumb, smiling, or yawning).
IS IT REQUIRED?
3D and 4D ultrasounds are optional. They are not standard prenatal tests. Also, not all doctors have access to 3D or 4D ultrasounds.
IS IT SAFE?
Studies suggest that 3D and 4D ultrasounds are completely safe. Plus, the images can help doctors spot a problem with your baby and make it easier for them to explain it to you.
